The most important
appointment of the international tattoo convention
circuit is back: once again it’s Milan.
People speak about it all year round and the
requests of tattoo artists that want to be there
is very high. These artists come from all over
the world and meet each year in February in
Italy in Milan for the event that nobody wants
to miss: the Milan Tattoo Convention.
This year it celebrates its 10th anniversary
and the appointment looks like it will be very
unique, thanks to the presence of names that
have made the history of tattoos, that made
tattoos a form of art and especially, a contemporary
form of expression par excellence. Besides for
quality, Milan stands out from all the other
conventions thanks to the extraordinary number
of artists that for three days work constantly
with an ecstatic public, for the great chance
of seeing in just one event the finest artists
of the world.
But Milan is something more than a tattoo convention,
it is the showcase of international tattoos
par excellence, of tattoos considered as a form
of art that deserves attention just like all
other figurative art. That’s why for such
an occasion a location like the important Quark
Hotel was chosen, a five star hotel, and that’s
why the organizers were very attentive to make
sure everything works out well. Tattoo artists,
the public and mass media are all witnesses
of this new side of contemporary tattoos, a
form of art in constant evolution, rich in artistic
contaminations and alive like no other form
of art.
The great international tattoo artists will
be the most accredited witnesses to “tell”
through their work how around the world more
styles and roots cross their trails, how the
figurative world of tattoos is in constant evolution,
to confirm the fact that also this type of artistic
expression will never stop moving its boundaries.
The prestige of an international event
A lot of ink went by since the first two editions
of the Milan Tattoo Convention were held at
the motorcycle association Indian's Saloon.
At the time it was a great celebration with
a lot of concerts, and more than 3000 people
from all over Italy who came to the convention
to have fun, get a tattoo and listen to good
music. The 1998 edition made a giant step forward,
when the event moved to the Palavobis, arranged
to hold 10,000 people. Then it moved to the
big heated tents near the Filaforum in Assago
and the Palacquatica, where besides the convention
there was also a great art exhibition with paintings
made from the most important artists in the
world. And then the Quark Hotel, a seal to confirm
a sort of leadership at European level among
tattoo conventions.
The new side of tattoos
The effort of the organizers is to propose a
new way of “making conventions".
Starting from music, with contemporary sounds
with great impact, fun but not too invasive
for the artist’s work, and important parallel
events, able to give a real added value to the
event:
- Art Fusion – It is
the artistic expression closest to tattoos.
Created by Paul Booth and Filip Leu as a fun
experiment to entertain the public doing art,
Art Fusion after only three years has become
a highly expected moment of tattoo conventions.
The objective is on the one hand to move ideas
and to bring together the tattoo artists under
the power of art; on the other to have the public
witness “live” the creation of a
unique work result of the cooperation and artistic
intuition of more than one artist, in a chorus
that gathers and cancels the individual voices.
This years London Tattoo Convention
was definitely one of the coolest conventions
we have had the privilege of attending. The
roster of artists from around the world was
unbelievable. Some of the best tattoo artists
on the planet were there. It was a great honor
for or us at Divinity Tattoo to have been present
there.
The show started off with a
line wrapped around the block. Paolo and his
wife were joined by Canman and Angela from Visions
Tattoo as well as Manuel Valenzula from Inkfactuations.
Paolo tattooed Angela from Visions Tattoo on
Friday. The piece was a portrait of Angela's
Dog. The piece went on to win 3rd Best of Show.
Check out all the pictures from the show and
see another tattoo done at the show by Paolo.
We definitely look forward
to another London Tattoo Show and would like
to thank our friend Miki Valetto for inviting
us from Tattoo Energy.
